A child walked 5 m to cross a rectangular field diagonally. If breadth of field is 3 m, what is the length of rectangular filed?
Answer:
4 m
- If the length and the width of the rectangle are assumed to be l and w, the length of the diagonal, according to pyhtagoras theorem will be equal to
d2 = l2 + w2 - The length of the diagonal and width is given as 5 m and 3 m. Putting them in the above expression we get:
52 = l2 + 32
l2 = 25 - 9 = 16
which gives us l as 4 m. - Hence the length of the rectangular field is 4 m.
